Tips for Teachers:

  1. Screen the projects - don't send us projects that you don't think are very good.  Make sure all signatures are in place.

  2. Senior Division Teachers:  there is no guarantee that our SRC caught everything in our review, so please have the students review the rules pertaining to their particular restriction and make sure everything is in order.  Also get the students to make sure that they have made the suggested changes to forms, etc. that were on the notes on the papers that were reviewed. Not doing so in some cases could lead to disqualification.

  3. Have students check their Start and End dates on Form 1A.  The actual Start date must be AFTER all the rest of the signatures (except for Form 1C).   These dates MUST be filled in on the form . See Process for Forms and Order of Dates for help in making sure the dates are correct.

  4. The File copy of the paper, which includes copies of all the forms, should be ON TOP.  All other copies of the paper should consist of the research paper only.

  5. All forms on the "File Copy" should be put in numerical order.  Forms should be in the following order:
  •  Student Information Form (generated when student registered online)
  •  Form 1       (Checklist for Adult Sponsor...)
  •  Form 1A     (Student Checklist & full Research Plan)
  •  Form 1B     (Approval Form signed by the student & a parent)
  •  Any other forms necessary for the project in numerical order (Qualified
     Scientist, Human Subjects, etc.).
  •  The actual research paper (synopsis) should come at the end.

  1. Have students write their project numbers (generated at online registration) on the
    upper left corner
of each copy of their paper for identification purposes. Do not staple the Student Information Form on top of each copy.   Put this form on the File Copy only.

  2. Junior Division Teachers :  You should not sign form 1B (Approval Form) in the box in the middle of the page for your own students' papers.  That box is for the Chair of the SRC and teachers cannot be the SRC chair for their own students.

  3. Use only current Metro Richmond Science Fair forms

  4. Please ask students to have access to a printer when they register on line and to only register ONCE.  They should not "double click" on "Continue" or "Submit" as this will create duplicate registrations, which just means more time for us to match up papers with registrations.

  5. Students no longer need to include an abstract with their synopses in February.  The screeners have said that they don't read it at this time since they're reading the entire paper anyway.  Students will still need to type in the abstract when they register online and have a copy of it to display at the Fair if they are accepted.
